What Your Diamond Is Really Worth: The 4 Cs, Explained Plainly

Cut, color, clarity, carat — plus the two things online calculators always miss when they estimate your diamond ring.
The 4 Cs Without the Jargon
Carat is weight, not size. Color grades how close to colorless the stone is. Clarity describes internal marks. Cut — the one most people underestimate — is how well the stone was shaped to throw light back at you. Two one-carat diamonds can differ enormously in value because of cut alone.
Why Online Estimates Miss
An online calculator cannot see chips along the girdle, a repair on the setting, or whether the certificate matches the stone in the ring. Those details move the number in both directions, which is why every diamond we buy is examined under a loupe in person, free of charge.
Selling an Engagement Ring
Selling a ring after a divorce or a loss is a personal thing, and we treat it that way — privately, without pressure, and with a clear explanation of the offer. Bring any paperwork you have: a GIA or IGI certificate helps, but it is not required.
